We are delighted to announce that Alexandrous Tsoupas, a PhD student from the Department of Genetics and Evolution, has been awarded the 2025 PSLS Annual Thesis Prize for his outstanding doctoral dissertation.

Alexandros conducted his PhD research in the group of Mathias Currat, within the doctoral program in Ecology and Evolution, focusing on human population paleogenomics. His thesis, entitled "Inferring Population Dynamics During Past Expansion Events Using Spatiotemporal Molecular Patterns", investigates how occurred the interactions between prehistoric populationsduring past range expansions, through the analysis of ancient DNA using computational modeling and statistical approaches. This work provides new insights into the demographic history of populations by combining innovative computational methods and evolutionary theory.

The PSLS Annual Thesis Prize recognizes exceptional doctoral research carried out within the PhD School of Life Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Science. This prestigious award highlights Alexandros’s scientific contributions and the high quality of research conducted within our department.

Congratulations to Alexandros for this well-deserved recognition!
