We are delighted to welcome in the Department, Michel C. Milinkovitch who joined our University as a new Full Professor (Professeur Ordinaire). Michel is 41 years old and made his PhD (1994) jointly at Yale University and Brussels University. Michel Milinkovitch will strengthen our Department in multiple fields within evolutionary biology as he contributed important research in:
- population / conservation genetics (e.g., of South-American dolphins, Galapagos giant tortoises, Galapagos land iguanas, Jamaican boas)
- molecular phylogenetics (e.g., within mammals and amphibians)
- bioinformatics (e.g., multiple alignment approaches, new heuristics for phylogeny inference, genome databases)
Although he will continue working on a selected number of issues within these disciplines, a significant proportion of his activities in our Department will be to combine experimental and theoretical evolutionary biology with developmental biology.
A welcome drink will be offered by the department on Thursday, September 18 at 11:30 in the hall of SciencesIII.
